South Africa’s Anti-Apartheid Activist, Winnie Mandela Dead at 81

The continent has received yet another sad news of the fall of her great activist, Winnie Madikizela Mandela who campaigned against the apartheid regime in South Africa.

Her late husband spent 27-years in prison for fighting the apartheid system, she stood by him at the time and become a strong voice together with him and also made several campaigns for his release.

They held each hand-in-hand on the day of his release. They became a powerful couple, Nelson went on to become the president of the country and she was the first lady. Their marriage which took effect in 1958 ended in 1996.

An official statement is expected from the family soon.
